Fertile Window Calculator: Find Your Most Fertile Days
Timing is everything when trying to conceive. You are only fertile for a brief window each cycle — and pinpointing it accurately is one of the most effective things you can do. This calculator identifies your fertile window and peak ovulation date from just two inputs.
How the Fertile Window Works
Ovulation releases an egg that survives for only 12–24 hours. But sperm can survive inside the reproductive tract for up to 5 days. This means your fertile window is approximately 6 days — the 5 days before ovulation, plus the day of ovulation itself. Having intercourse on any of these days gives a chance of conception, with peak probability on the 1–2 days immediately before ovulation.
The Formula
Ovulation Day = LMP + Cycle Length − 14
Fertile Window = Ovulation Day − 5 to Ovulation Day + 1
Worked Example
LMP: February 1. Cycle: 30 days.
Ovulation = February 1 + 30 − 14 = February 17
Fertile Window = February 12–18

Relative Fertility by Day
| Day Relative to Ovulation | Conception Probability |
| 5 days before | ~10% |
| 3–4 days before | 15–20% |
| 1–2 days before | 25–30% |
| Day of ovulation | 20–25% |
| 1 day after | ~5% |
Confirming Your Fertile Window
- Ovulation Predictor Kits (OPKs). Detect LH surge 24–36 hours before ovulation — the most reliable home method.
- Cervical Mucus. Clear, stretchy, egg-white-like mucus signals peak fertility.
- Basal Body Temperature (BBT). Temperature rises 0.2–0.5°C after ovulation — shows the window has passed but helps you understand your cycle pattern over months.
What Can Shift Your Fertile Window
- Stress, illness, and travel can delay ovulation — shifting the window later in the cycle.
- Irregular cycles make calendar calculations less reliable — OPKs become more important.
- Coming off hormonal contraception can cause irregular cycles for 1–3 months.
Practical Tips
Aim for intercourse every 2–3 days during the fertile window. This strategy removes timing pressure and covers variability in ovulation timing.
Start folic acid 3 months before trying. Neural tube formation happens before many women know they are pregnant.
Track multiple cycles. One cycle of data is not reliable enough — 3 months of tracking reveals your personal pattern accurately.
Final Thoughts
Knowing your fertile window gives you the best possible foundation when trying to conceive. Combined with OPK testing, it provides reliable, actionable information every cycle.
